They serve good value Chinese meals to swarms every day.
This Girl and her work team are regulars at Dumpling Express. Primarily because they serve some of the best BBQ pork buns in Hobart. In times of stress, it is one of our comfort foods. That and chunky kit kats.
And they’re quick. There’s not much waiting around for takeaway and you can order online and over the telephone.
The Style Princess and I went there for Friday lunch recently, deciding to eat-in for a change.
What we ate:
BBQ pork buns obviously, $2.95 each
Spring roll, $1.95 each
Combination fried noodle, loaded with Chinese pork, beef, prawns and squid, $11.95
Roast duck fried rice, around $14 from memory.
Everything was tasty, particularly with the addition of the fried red shallots. We talked our heads off and hoofed in.
The meals were huge and whilst we gave them a red-hot go, we had to succumb. With a couple of snacks, it’s probably more realist to share one plate between two.
Proof of their popularity, quality and value, is the number of customers you’ll find in Dumpling Express most any time. It can be hard to get a seat but because meals are served swiftly, you don’t have to wait long for a table.
If you’re really in a hurry, they have a couple of bain marie dishes.
Find them at 3/138 Collins Street, Hobart. Call on 6224 3858.
They’re open Monday to Saturday 11am – 8.45pm and on Sunday, 11.30am – 9 pm.
