Vintage modern made
petit marché
This little market is about three weeks old and
perhaps Hobart’s hippest and freshest shop. The Two Girls came to a rapid
stop in a recent morning walk from North Hobart to the CBD and quickly made a date to give it a once over.
The petit marché ethos is vintage, local and handmade.
It is a shop you would expect to come across in Fitzroy rather than Elizabeth Street, Hobart, and it is swimming in retro keep-sakes.
Some of the things you will find there include
kitchen kitsch, salvaged goods, antique and vintage kimono clutches, funky
buttons and handmade smocks.
We met owner and inspiration, Beth, who supports local designers and is BIG on recycling.
She encourages local artist to bring in their
work and size it up to see how well it fits the shop’s style. Apart from local
found objects, you may also secure a special piece direct from Beth’s mate in
Paris who sources special lovelies from the equivalent of garages sales.
Cash up folks, you will not be lost for things to
spend your money on in this lovely little edition to Hobart’s shopping
landscape.
You will find them at 150 Elizabeth Street Hobart between Melville and Brisbane Streets.
They are open weekdays except Mondays, 10 until 5, Saturdays, 11 until 4 and Sundays, 10 until 2.
