Living and Loving Hobart:: Horseshoe Inn

Good honest pub food, value for money and the friendly service. That’s what you get at the Horseshoe Inn at Cambridge.

Conveniently it is the halfway point for a catch up with two mummy friends; Too-Cool and Cute-Carer. At our most recent dinner, to farewell Too-Cool’s life as a thirty something, Baker-Girl joined us.

The Horseshoe Inn has plenty of space with the main dining area, a second smaller slightly raised dining area at the rear and our favourite, a quaint little area lined with booths. (The Two Girls love booths). You can see the kitchen from the dining areas and it is a hive of activity, with an impressive amount of meals prepared in a speedy time!

Along with the normal menu the Horseshoe has a specials board. This Girl chose the special vegetarian lasagne for $18. The ladies chose the seafood feast for $25.50 and the impressive meat lover’s chicken schnitzel for $26 from the main menu. In typical pub style, all meals come with either vegetables or chips and salad.

Baker-Girl brought along birthday cake and the staff were happy to keep it in the kitchen until we needed it. They joined us in singing Happy Birthday and left us with a knife, serving plates and cutlery for us to enjoy without a cake-age fee.

The service at the Horseshoe is as impressive as their meals. Every staff member seems happy to be there, they are always polite and don’t mind that us girls sit in the booth long after our meals are finished chatting and laughing.

As you can see from the pics, the meals are a decent size and the staff are more than happy to pack up any leftovers for you to take home. This Girl was so impressed with the vegetarian lasagne that I bought a take-home serve for my Devotee to have for lunch the next day (I may have also been influenced by my guilt of enjoying his favourite type of lasagne while he had to fend for himself at home!).

This Girl is falling in love with Cambridge. It’s a gorgeous little town that has the best of everything for me. It’s just 15 minutes out of Hobart but it feels like a trip to the country along the beautiful windy road with its scattering of houses along the way on the end of the Coal River Valley wine trail. Of course, it’s developing rapidly with an ever increasing number of residential streets appearing and it’s just a stone’s throw from Cambridge Park.
